Bu Guru Thomson Bertahun-tahun yang lalu, Bu Thomson berdiri didepan
siswa kelas V mengucapkan sebuah kata bohong
kepada para siswanya dia mengatakan akan mencintai
setiap muridnya. Tetapi hal tersebut sebetulnya tak
sepenuhnya jujur, karena Teddy yang duduk dibarisan
depan adalah seorang anak yang tidak konsentrasi belajar dan kotor. Sebenarnya Bu Thomson sangat ingin
dengan pena merahnya menulis diatas rapor Teddy
nilai “E”. Pada suatu hari ketika Bu Thomson sedang memeriksa
catatan di rapor para muridnya. Dia sangat terkejut
membaca komentar para mantan guru Teddy. Guru di kelas I menulis, “Teddy adalah seorang murid
yang cerdas, selalu tersenyum, pekerjaan rumahnya
dan catatannya selalu rapi, sangat menghormati orang
lain, membuat orang disekelilingnya berbahagia!.” Guru kelas II menulis, “Teddy adalah seorang pelajar
yang sempurna, semua teman-teman menyukainya,
tetapi ibunya menderita penyakit kanker, kehidupan
dirumahnya pasti sangat susah!” Guru kelas III menulis, “Kematian ibunya
menimbulkan pukulan berat baginya. Dia sangat rajin
belajar, tetapi ayahnya tidak peduli terhadapnya, jika
tidak segera diambil tindakan maka kehidupan
keluarganya akan segera mempengaruhi pelajarannya.
“ Guru kelas IV menulis, “Pelajaran Teddy mulai
mundur, dia tidak tertarik kepada pelajaran lagi, dia
tidak ada teman lagi, terkadang tertidur di ruang
kelas.” Setelah membaca catatan tersebut, Bu Thomson baru
menyadari masalah yang sebenarnya. Dia merasa
malu, dan sangat sedih karena pada saat natal, semua
muridnya memberi dia hadiah yang dibungkus dengan
kertas kado yang cantik, sedangkan Teddy
membungkus hadiahnya dengan kertas koran. Bu Thomson membuka hadiah Teddy, didepan kelas,
hadiahnya adalah sebuah gelang berlian palsu dan
sebotol parfum yang tersisa ¼ , murid-murid yang lain
mulai menertawakan hadiah dari Teddy, tetapi guru Bu
Thomson segera mengambil gelang tersebut dipakai
ditangannya dan berkata sangat indah dia menyukai hadiah tersebut, lalu menyemprotkan parfum tersebut
ke tangannya. Hari itu setelah lonceng pulang berbunyi, Teddy tinggal
dikelas dan berkata kepada guru Bu Thomson, “Guru,
hari ini engkau wangi seperti ibuku!.” Setelah Teddy
pulang, guru Bu Thomson menangis dengan sedih
selama satu jam. Setelah hari itu guru Bu Thomson tidak
mengajar “Membaca, menulis dan menghafal dan matematika lagi.” Tetapi dia mengajarkan pendidikan
kepada para muridnya. Mulai hari itu dia memberi perhatian khusus kepada
Teddy, mencurahkan kasih sayang seperti seorang ibu
kandung, Teddy juga mulai hidup kembali, guru Bu
Thomson selalu memberi semangat kepadanya, dia
semakin tangkas. Di akhir tahun Teddy menjadi murid
yang terpintar dikelasnya. Walaupun guru Bu Thomson mengatakan akan mencintai setiap muridnya tetapi
Teddy adalah siswa favoritnya. Setahun kemudian, guru Bu Thomson menemukan
secarik kertas yang ditempel dipintu rumahnya, itu
adalah tulisan Teddy yang mengatakan “guru Bu
Thomson adalah guru yang paling baik yang dijumpai
seumur hidupnya!” Setelah 6 tahun berlalu guru Bu
Thomson menerima sepucuk surat dari Teddy yang mengatakan dia sudah tamat SMA, dia mendapat juara
3, dia mengatakan guru Bu Thomson tetap adalah guru
yang paling baik seumur hidupnya dan guru favoritnya! Empat tahun kemudian, Teddy menulis bahwa dia telah
tamat S1 dan akan melanjutkan ke S2 dia mengatakan
guru Bu Thomson tetap guru favorit dan guru yang
terbaik selama hidupnya, dan guru Bu Thomson melihat
ada tambahan gelar dokter ditanda tangannya. Cerita ini belum berakhir, pada musim semi tahun ini,
Teddy menulis surat lagi, menceritakan bahwa ayahnya
sudah meninggal beberapa tahun yang lalu, dia sudah
menemukan seorang gadis dan akan menikah
dengannya, dia meminta guru Bu Thomson sebagai
walinya akan disediakan tempat duduk di posisi orang tuanya. Guru Bu Thomson memenuhi permintaan Teddy,
pada hari pernikahan dia memakai gelang berlian palsu
pemberian Teddy dan menyemprotkan parfum
pemberian Teddy, Teddy teringat itu terakhir kalinya dia
bersama ibunya merayakan natal dan ibunya memakai
parfum ini. Ketika mereka merangkul satu sama lain, prof. Teddy
